Introduction

Prof. Dr. Nagamani Srinath's contribution as a composer reflects a rare synthesis of classical scholarship, creativity and tradition. Her compositions are firmly rooted in the grammar of Carnatic music while remaining musically engaging, pedagogically valuable and accessible to performers and audiences alike.

Original Compositions

Over the course of her distinguished career, Prof. Dr. Nagamani Srinath has composed more than 200 original Carnatic compositions, including varṇams, tillānās and kṛtis, in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Sanskrit. These works reflect a deep understanding of rāga bhāva, lyrical expression and classical structure, enriching the Carnatic repertoire with original contributions.

Musical Contribution

Beyond her original compositions, she has composed music for over 300 Haridasa kīrtanas, vachanas, bhavageethas and bhajans, creating musical settings that preserve the literary richness of these works while presenting them through the idiom of Carnatic music.

Continuing Impact

Her original compositions continue to be featured in concerts by musicians and in the repertoire of classical dancers, reflecting their enduring artistic appeal and place in the contemporary Carnatic tradition. They also continue to form part of the repertoire of students trained under her guidance.
